A single father in Michigan was critically injured while he was working on a highway project recently, run over by a truck.
The man, a seasonal employee, was working on electrical service in a closed-off construction area on Long Lake Road near Interstate 75 in Troy, Michigan, when the incident occurred. The aim of the crew was to move power lines before a bridge demolition took place.
The injured man’s father said the driver of a service truck didn’t see the man and backed into him. He was knocked down, pinned and run over. The father said his son was hospitalized with a number of injuries, including a broken pelvis, internal bleeding and broken ribs.
He subsequently had surgery for collapsed lungs and was on life support in the intensive care unit.
The man’s father said he has two teenage daughters he has been raising since their mother died six years ago. He also has a 6-year-old son with his ex-wife.
The worker had been unemployed throughout the winter and had just returned to work. His father said that he has a long road ahead of him, including additional surgery. He won’t be able to walk for at least three months, according to what doctors had told the family.
The effects of this man’s catastrophic injuries will be with him for a long time, and his medical bills will be enormous. His children will need support, and it will be a long time before he can earn a paycheck again. His family will need to consult with an attorney to help him recover his losses in earnings and medical expenses.
