Who is Dr. Oumair Aejaz?

Dr. Oumair Aejaz is a former internal medicine physician who worked as a contracted physician at multiple healthcare facilities throughout Michigan beginning in 2018. During that time, he held privileges or practiced medicine at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township, Detroit Sinai Grace Hospital, Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc, and Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital in Royal Oak, MI. What began as a trusted medical career has since become the subject of widespread sexual abuse allegations that have led to criminal charges, civil litigation, and one of the largest hospital sexual abuse settlements in Oakland County, Michigan.

According to investigators, Dr. Aejaz engaged in years of predatory behavior, including secretly recording patients and others in private settings, capturing and distributing child sexually abusive material, and sexually assaulting unconscious patients while they were receiving medical treatment. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office alleges that authorities recovered thousands of videos from electronic devices seized during the investigation, many depicting patients in vulnerable situations inside hospital rooms, bathrooms, and changing areas. Investigators also allege that Dr. Aejaz placed hidden cameras inside the Goldfish Swim School in Rochester Hills, where children and adults were secretly recorded in locker rooms and changing areas.

The allegations have resulted in criminal prosecution against Dr. Aejaz and multiple civil lawsuits against him and the healthcare systems where he practiced medicine. A class action lawsuit against Dr. Aejaz, Henry Ford Health, and Henry Ford Macomb Hospital Corporation was resolved through a court-approved settlement that became final on October 31, 2025.

What Was Dr. Oumair Aejaz Convicted Of?

The criminal proceedings against Dr. Oumair Aejaz stemmed from an extensive investigation conducted by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department, which uncovered thousands of videos and images allegedly documenting years of sexual misconduct involving patients, children, and other unsuspecting victims. Investigators allege that Dr. Aejaz used his position at several medical facilities to abuse patients and secretly record individuals in private settings, including hospital rooms, bathrooms, changing areas, and a swim school locker room.

In October 2025, Dr. Aejaz entered no-contest pleas (which have the same legal effect as guilty pleas) to 31 felony counts, including:

  • 13 counts of using a computer to commit crimes
  • Nine counts of capturing (recording) and distributing images of an unclothed person
  • Four counts of child sexually abusive activity
  • Three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct
  • Two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct

In December of 2025, Aejaz was formally sentenced to 35-60 years in prison for his crimes. However, according to a press release from the Oakland County government, “Investigations remain ongoing into other recorded assaults that may have occurred at medical facilities in other counties, and additional charges remain possible in those jurisdictions.”

Can You File a Claim Against Dr. Oumair Aejaz?

Although the class action lawsuit has concluded, some survivors may still have the right to pursue legal action based on the unique facts of their cases. Individual civil claims may remain available for victims who suffered sexual abuse or other harm connected to Dr. Oumair Aejaz’s criminal misconduct. The experienced attorneys at Lipton Law continue to investigate these cases and can evaluate your circumstances during a free, confidential consultation.

If you or a loved one believe you were harmed, our team can explain your legal options and determine whether you may still be eligible to pursue compensation.

What Damages Can You Recover?

Filing a civil claim for sexual abuse does more than seek financial compensation. It can hold the responsible parties accountable and help survivors pursue justice for the harm they have endured. Depending on the facts of the case, victims may be able to recover compensation for both economic and non-economic damages, including:

  • Medical expenses and ongoing healthcare costs
  • Mental health counseling and therapy expenses
  • Lost wages and diminished earning capacity
  • Pain and suffering
  • Emotional distress and mental anguish
  • Psychological trauma
  • Other losses recognized under applicable law

Every case is unique, and the compensation available will depend on the specific circumstances surrounding the abuse and the resulting harm.

Michigan Statute of Limitations on Sexual Abuse Cases

The Michigan statute of limitations for personal injury and sexual abuse lawsuits sets a strict timeframe within which survivors must file their claims. In general, adult survivors seeking damages for criminal sexual conduct have 10 years from the date of the offense to file a civil lawsuit under MCL 600.5805. Different rules and extended filing periods may apply to survivors who were minors at the time of the abuse or in other circumstances recognized by Michigan law.

Because these deadlines can vary based on the survivor’s age, the nature of the abuse, the parties involved, and other legal considerations, it is important to speak with an experienced lawyer as soon as possible. Missing the applicable filing deadline could affect your ability to pursue compensation through a civil lawsuit.

Cases involving medical professionals, including the allegations against Dr. Oumair Aejaz, can present additional legal and factual issues that require careful investigation. Our attorneys at Lipton Law can evaluate your circumstances, explain how the statute of limitations may apply to your case, and determine whether you may still have the right to seek compensation.
